What is this medication?
Mirtazapine works as an antidepressant via blocking a2 adrenergic receptors and histamine receptors, this results in an increased appetite and reduced nausea. It is typically used in cats but can be also be effective in dogs in certain cases.
Why was this medication prescribed to my pet?
It may be prescribed for cats and dogs that are inappetent, experiencing nausea or for weight loss management in cats.

Usually supplied as a topical ointment applied to the inside of the ear, liquid formulations and tablets.

Pets with a history of hypersensitivity

Transdermal formulations should not be used in pets with less than 2kg or 6 months old

What monitoring is required?
Your veterinarian may monitor appetite and body weight during treatment.
Storage and safety
Store the medication at room temperature and keep the tube tightly closed. Protect from light and moisture.
Store transdermal ointment below 25°and use within 30 days after opening.
